The Outstanding Young Person Award

(formerly the Outstanding Young Canadian Award Program & Vanier Award)

Following the death of General Georges Vanier in 1967, the Canadian Junior Chamber of Commerce (JCI Canada) established the Vanier Awards Program to recognize Outstanding Young Canadians.  JCI Canada was proud to re-establish this premiere awards program in Canada in 2004.

The Outstanding Young Person Award Program recognizes outstanding individuals between the ages of 18 and 40 who exemplify the best attributes of the world's young people in the following five categories:

Accomplishment: The nominee for this award has an entrepreneurial spirit and is seen as a mentor by their peers.  Their desire to succeed together with their leadership ability has led to their success.

Innovation:  The medical, scientific, technological and academic fields have seen a great deal of innovation that has contributed to the world's advancement.  The nominee for this award has been part of this innovation by discovering, developing, creating or founding new products or processes.

Achievement:  Culture, arts and athletics contribute to our society in a number of ways.  This award recognizes individuals who exceed their goals and then look for a new challenge.  The nominee for this award has reached the summit in their chosen field and aspires to even greater achievement and this award recognizes their achievement.

Contribution:  Working on behalf of children, world peace and human rights makes a positive difference in our world.  The nominee for this award has volunteered countless hours of their time and energy and created positive change around them and this award  recognizes their contribution.

Leadership:  The legal, political, public and governmental sectors have leaders to use their skills to attain goals on a regular basis.  They constantly make a difference in their organization and their leadership ability is a key to their success.  The nominee for this award has proven leadership abilities.

The 2009 recipient was:

Mr. George F. J. Gosbee, Calgary, Alberta in the category of Accomplishment.

Mr. Gosbee was honoured at the President's Gala of JCI Canada held on September 19, 2009 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
